Dear Fellow Members, Entrepreneurs, Master craftsmen, and Valued Partners,

As we observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, I extend a warm and heartfelt message to our entire community of micro, small, and medium scale enterprises across Ghana.
Our small businesses are the beating heart of our economy. Every day, through your hard work, dedication, and resilience, you build families, empower communities, and drive our nation's growth. Yet, the strength of our businesses depends entirely on the health and well-being of the women and men who run them.
Breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent health challenges facing women today, including many of our own business owners, workers, mothers, sisters, and daughters within the informal and small-scale sectors.
The loss or illness of an entrepreneur does not only affect a household; it threatens livelihoods, halts enterprises, and impacts whole communities.
That is why this October, we must treat breast health not just as a personal matter, but as a collective business priority.

For Our Members,
Early Detection Saves Lives and Livelihoods
Breast cancer is highly treatable when detected early. Regular self-examinations and routine clinical screenings are essential steps that every woman—and man—should prioritize. Do not wait for symptoms or pain before seeking care.

Break the Silence and End Stigma
Fear, misinformation, and stigma often prevent people from seeking early help. Within our associations, workshops, and marketplaces, let us create safe spaces to discuss health, encourage one another, and dispel myths surrounding breast cancer.

Support One Another
For those currently fighting breast cancer or supporting loved ones through treatment, know that you are not alone. The ASSI network stands with you in solidarity, compassion, and support.

Our Call to Action
Throughout this month, I encourage all regional branches, trade associations, and executive committees to:
Integrate Health Awareness: Use your regular association meetings to share basic information on breast self-examination and local screening centers.
Partner for Screenings: Collaborate with local healthcare centers and community health officers to organize accessible screenings for market women, craft artisans, and enterprise workers.
Prioritize Wellness: Remember that taking time out for a health check is an investment in the long-term sustainability of your business.
Let us stand united this October. By taking care of our health today, we protect the future of our families, our enterprises, and our communities.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and keep thriving.

Warm regards,
Rev Christian Balagi,
National President.
